Avoid Double Chin Problems – Here’s How

Avoiding a problem double chin can be difficult work, especially if you have a genetic predisposition toward one. Yes, sometimes double chins simply run in the family. When this is the case, a double chin still can be avoided. It just takes a little extra concentration.

No More Double Chin!

No More Double Chin!

Proper dieting can be helpful when trying to stop a double chin before it starts or get rid of a double chin that already exists. However, very often a double chin is not an obesity problem. In other words, people who are otherwise slim can somehow or another develop a fat face. While this is a dirty deal much of it goes back to that genetic disposition thing.

Therefore, if you are already thin it would seem reasonable that getting thinner wouldn’t erase your double chin. However, many people in this situation have been help by making a couple of dietary changes. These helpful changes are as follows:

  • Changing from higher fat meats, such as beef to lower fat meets such as chicken
  • Avoiding butter, instead use a butter substitute, and, probably most importantly,
  • Increasing the intake of water

Other than these basic things no dietary changes seem to help in slimming down the face, unless of course, the double chinned person needs to slim down altogether. However, as we have already stated this is not always the case. In truth, double chins and expansive waistlines don’t always go hand in hand.

Countless people have found relief from double chin problems by doing exercises designed to eradicate the double chin. Basically, there are four double chin exercises all which can be found and even illustrated on this website. Double chin exercises are exercises which are geared to increase the muscle structure below the chin and in the upper neck area. As in any other part of the body, when muscles are increased, fat is decreased.

Also, simply tightening up this area will draw the loose skin tight against the bone structure. Doing so will not only get rid of one’s double chin but it will also tend to take years off of the appearance.

To recap; lowering the fat intake in the diet is helpful in eradicating the larger fat cells which become most apparent in the face. Drinking water always has beneficial effects in burning the fact off of fatty areas of the body, providing the person is not overeating at the same time. Finally targeting exercises to the part of the body where the exerciser is trying to decrease fat is invariably beneficial.

Cosmetic Surgery for Double Chins

In their zeal to get rid of their double chins, some people opt to use cosmetic surgery. Surgeon with scalpelThough this procedure could take care of the problem, there are some drawbacks to cosmetic surgery. One of these drawbacks is the fact cosmetic surgery is indeed, surgery. In other words, there are anesthetics involved and a knife and stitches as well. When you think about it, it isn’t all that palatable to think of someone cutting your face with a knife. I guess if you have some medical problem that could eventually threaten your life and having your face cut up would cure you, surgery would be a great option. However, since there are other ways to take care of your double chin problem, you would probably like to put the surgery option at the end of the line.

Also, cosmetic surgery designed to get rid of your double chin, or any surgery for that matter can be costly. The fact most cosmetic surgery is not done to heal but rather to make you look better means your insurance company won’t pay for it. Therefore, getting rid of your double chin via cosmetic surgery is a very expensive option.

There is another drawback to taking the surgical route to better looks; namely the fact the operation doesn’t always work. In reality, some people end up looking worse than they did when they started out! Yes, it’s true sometimes cosmetic surgeons do wonders to a person’s face. However, no one is perfect, not even a skilled surgeon, and therefore, there have been numerous cosmetic surgery operations that have backfired. Below is a video showing some of these cases.

While it is not my intent to tell you how to run your life and certainly, I would try to hold you back if you were convinced surgery is the way you would like to go. Still, you owe it to yourself to carefully weigh the pluses and minuses of cosmetic surgery for eradication of your double chin.

Due to the fact there are other natural options thousands of people have used to get rid of flabbiness in the face, including double chins, it would seem one of these other options would be a very attractive.

Exercise Away Your Double Chin

Here’s an article by Vernon Capp about tightening up the muscle structure in lower jaw and under the chin.  These exercises are VernonCappsimilar to some of those shown in the videos below but I felt you might like to read the explanation of how these exercises are done and why. Also, these exercises give another angle on how they are performed.  After doing these exercises you will immediately feel the muscles tightening.

There are many ways you can go about trying to get rid of a double chin. You’ll see many miracle creams, potions, lotions, a double chin diet, and even a double chin device promising to be the best way to get rid of a double chin. The problem is that very few of them will net you the lasting results you’ll get from active chin exercises for double chin reduction.

There once was a time when people believed that the chin was the most difficult area to target with exercises. The truth of the matter is that there are exercises that specifically target the chin and are highly effective at getting rid of a double chin. Though the same method is never effective for everybody, the following exercises have helped many get rid of their double chins.

Chin Stretches

Exercise 1

Hey, at least they aren’t crunches, right? But seriously, cover your top lip with your lower lip to stretch the skin of your chin. Inhale through your nose while tilting your head back so that you’re looking straight up. Hold your breath and remain in this position for ten seconds. Exhale as you slowly lower your head into a neutral position.

Repeat this three or four times and work your way up to fifteen over time. Work this into your daily routine and perform the exercise two or three different times throughout your day.

Exercise 2

Stand in a position where you’re comfortable and your head is in a natural position. Pull your chin up to the point where you feel your muscles tense and stretch. Hold the position and count to ten. Relax.

Begin with two or three of these in a session and build up to ten in one session. Repeat the sessions two or three times throughout your day.

Exercise 3

Stand or sit in a natural position. Open your mouth as wide as possible. Extend your tongue (stick your tongue out) as far as it can go. Hold this position and count to ten. Relax your mouth back to the natural position.

Start with a few repetitions and work up to ten. Repeat the process several times throughout the day.

The real beauty of these exercises for reducing double chins is that they can be done whenever you have free time. You can do them while getting ready for work in the morning, during your daily commute, while dropping the kids off at school, or even while watching a favorite television show at night. The best exercises for double chin conditioning and removal however, are the ones that you’re willing to do for however long it takes to work.

Best way to Lose a Double chin

Here is an excellent short video by licensed dietician Christina Marquette.  Though there is a lot of really great information in this video, there is one place where we disagree. This is where she says most people who have double chins need to lose weight. Though this may be true in the real world, we find most people who visit this website have double chins for reasons other than obesity. If you are here, chances are you are simply looking to tone and shape your face; especially the area beneath your chin and upper neck.

While it is true most obese people have double chins, it is not true that all people who have double chins are obese. In other words, the problem of losing weight and the problem of shaping up your upper neck area are very often two entirely different issues.

If you are looking to lose some weight, the advice Ms. Marquette gives is very sound. However, we’ve included this video on this website because of the content that explains ways to lose a double chin that do not involve weight loss.

Basic Double Chin Elimination Exercises

In this video Tonya Batts illustrates basic double chin elimination exercises.  While she is a proponent of cardio exercising, we here at “Causes of Double Chin”  are not advocating for or against cardio workouts.  This is an issue that should be worked out between yourself and your doctor and/or your personal trainer.  We are only interested in those exercises that impact your upper neck area and the area under your chin.  In any event, the exercises shown in the video below are excellent for double chin reduction.
